Hi Diddle-dee, It’s a pirate’s Life For me….
Boys don’t talk about Disney even if they saw the flicks as kids. Girls, though, do talk about them (as I was to discover). Hey–Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty…all chick flicks for those under 12. Girls don’t mind tears (sheesh!!!); I swore to hold tears after all the fatherly abuse.
Boys only discuss cool films, like Steve McQueen’s. Later, of course, it was all about movies where girls were topless.
As I said many posts ago, I grew up with Disney film soundtracks in lp format, narrated by a ‘character’ with picture booklets inside.
I think what started it was Allie going on about all she had to do after school. Doug was at some store, helping the owner, so she had to start supper, do laundry, run the sweeper, etc. And she started singing this:
And I sang along. “Wait–You know this??”
“Of course,” I said. “Doesn’t every kid?”
We had a good laugh, then it was my turn. You can’t lose with Peggy….Allie HAD to know this one.
Of course, she did. God bless Peggy Lee.
And in doing so, we created one of ‘our’ songs. We’d sing together in the months that followed: if we were together, walking or necking.
Very un-rock and roll, I know. But you make adjustments for girls, doncha know.
